ALL CHOKED UP
"Other seed [of the same kind] fell among thorn plants, and the thistles grew and pressed together and utterly choked and suffocated it, and it yielded no grain” -(Mark 4:7 AMP)
A few days ago, I was working with a crew outdoors when a huge sandstorm suddenly blew in which lasted for several hours. My coworkers and myself were literally assaulted by sand, dirt, and dust, and our noses, mouths, and lungs were being choked. All our good air was being suffocated by the bad air surrounding and confounding us.
Our situation caused me to think about Jesus’ parable of the sower in Mark 4 vv. 1 through 20. Jesus describes how the Gospel is received by different people. Verse 19 (Amplified Version) in particular stands out: “Then the cares and anxieties of the world and distractions of the age, and the pleasure and delight and false glamour and deceitfulness of riches, and the craving and passionate desire for other things creep in and choke and suffocate the Word, and it becomes fruitless.”
Our common enemy, Satan, will continuously assault us with earthly things that will appear pleasurable to us and, just like the sandstorms, God’s Living Word will begin to be squeezed and choked out from us if we allow it.
May we always be alert, watch the weather and stand fast against the storms the enemy throws in our face. Always be prepared as bad weather will most certainly be on the horizon, but thankfully, the storms WILL pass and Jesus will calm everything and cause us to breathe easier!

THE WAIT
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” - (Psalm 27:14)
WAITING! In a world that wants everything now (or yesterday), waiting is not something people care to do.
We have instant food (microwave, drive-thru, etc.), instant communication (fax, email, text-message, and phone), instant information (Google®, websites, apps, tv), and instant travel (cars, boats, jets). Yep, even our morning cup of coffee is instant...
In such a demanding world, is it any surprise how panicked, crestfallen, and downcast people become in a crisis as they look for instant results? God simply asks us to wait and He will take care of whatever our lives require if we will only just surrender and entrust it to Him. In His perfect timing, we will always see better and more satisfying results.
Each of us will experience undesirable circumstances at some point of our lives. It is then that God, Himself, “waits” on us to call on Him and allow Him to give us comfort as He attends to our need (s). “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (Psa 27:13-14).
God’s promise is that if we will trust Him and endure patiently, He will provide everything we need to sustain us completely.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isa 40:31).
Still persevering,

CHRIST – LIKE LOVE
“…and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.”
- (1 Cor 13:2)
“Gee, I just love the décor.” “You’ll love this shampoo.” “I love ya, man!” The word love is bandied so carelessly these days that it’s deepest meaning has been lost on the last couple of generations. Paul proclaimed, “If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.”
While there is nothing wrong with complimenting someone or doing good deeds, the motive behind them must be self-examined. Are we saying or doing things to be recognized by others or are we doing these things for love and gratitude to God for His saving grace?
1 Cor 13:4-8 tells us how we should love. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.”
Our faith, our spiritual gifts, our values, our ministry… it must possess sincere and genuine love of others in a way that Christ is exalted and revealed. Love is an action. Love is a verb.
“And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”
– (1 Cor 13:13)

TRANSFORMERS
“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed unto His likeness with ever-increasing glory, which come from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” - (2 Cor 3:18 NIV)
There is a huge offering of movies these days that use computer animation and graphics to pull off spectacular effects. Such is the case with a trio of movies starring the “Transformers”, a batch of robots that “morph” into other objects.
In the Christian realm, we, too, have a morphological transformation of transforming grace. It’s called regeneration. Regeneration is when the Holy Spirit is at work creating a new life in the sinful person who repents and comes to believe in Christ.
“Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. - (Rom 12:2 AMP)
Being transformed is not a make-believe, fairy-tale. It is real. And it’s not limited to just our mind and attitude. As believers in Christ, we will experience a physical transformation as well. “But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables Him to bring everything under His control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like His glorious body.” - (Phi 3:20-21 NIV)
Change me, o Lord, to be like You!

All I Want For Christmas Is…
“…Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” - (Luke 2:15b NASB)
What if you were sitting alone in an open field with no one around for miles. You’re alone with your thoughts and lamenting on how your life seems unfulfilled. Suddenly, you’re surrounded by light and a vast crowd of people telling you spectacular news that there is hope just waiting for you. All you need to do is get up and go see for yourself.
I’m guessing that those shepherds had eyes as big as grapefruits when the heavenly host suddenly appeared before them to tell them the “Good News” that the promised Messiah, the HOPE for the whole world, had been born and He was just waiting for the shepherds to come and see. All their anxieties and worldly cares were cast off as they discovered the Christ.
In this decaying world, with an uncertain economy and uncertain future, there is still a hope to be found. We can be totally fulfilled with satisfaction and joy. The Christ child, the Messiah, He waits for you and I to discover Him and know Him.
There is an old song in which a child laments: “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth”. Let our desire be: All I want for Christmas is to be filled with awestruck wonder and love for You, Lord Jesus, just like those shepherds were. You are the greatest gift that man could ever be given.
A joyous Christmas to all,

PSALM OF THANSGIVING
“OH GIVE thanks to the Lord, call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; Speak of all His wonders. – (1 Chron 16: 8-9 NASB)
1 Chronicles 16: 7-36, as well as Psalm 105: 1-45 are known as “David’s Psalm of Thanksgiving”. As you read these Scriptures, you will find a long list of blessings that are acknowledged and given sincere gratitude for.
How about you and I? Can we create our very own personal Psalm of Thanksgiving to the Lord? Yes, of course, we can! And it will bless our Lord’s heart when we come to His throne room of grace with hearts of praise for all He has done.
Meditate for a moment, and then, in Jesus’ name, begin a list of things that you are grateful for. You might begin with Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, your family, a healing, and so on. To help you get started, here’s a numbered list you can print out:
Lord, I’m thankful for…

HEY!...YA GONNA EAT THAT?
"Your words were found and I ate them, and Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart; For I have been called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts." – (Jer 15:16 NASB)
Over the past year or so, I have read, with interest, how several fast-food chains are changing their menus to include more healthy, nutritious choices and according to USA Today's® Money section, these chains are embarking on ways to market these new food items and make them enticing to the public; to make people hungry for it.
As Christians, we know we need good nutrition to keep our physical "temple" in good condition. But, we also know that we need the Spiritual nutrition of God's Word to feed our Spirit, keeping ourselves a "holy" temple.
"Like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord." -(1 Pet 2:2-3 NIV) Babies know when they are hungry and because of their physiology at that age, milk is the only thing that will satisfy their hunger. God's Word is the only thing that will satisfy the hunger of our spirit-man. Jesus, who is the Word, tells us: "I AM the bread of life…" (John 6:35). Nothing in this world can "fill" us like Jesus can.
Before we can share this "nutrition" with others, we must first receive it ourselves: "And He said to me, Son of man, eat this scroll that I give you and fill your stomach with it. Then I ate it, and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. And he said to me, Son of man, go, get you to the house of Israel and speak to them with My words." (Eze 3:3-4).
Our personal review/report may be the only way that others may come to taste and know the goodness and kindness of the Lord. They who have now been awed and satisfied, in turn, will recommend this tasteful banquet to others. And so on, and so on…)

GET WISDOM!
"How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver!" – (Prov 16:16)
Have you ever disregarded someone's good advice? Ignored their words of wisdom? I have!
Back in 1983-84, I was doing drywall in Phoenix, AZ. An unexpected 2-month lull occurred and I was sitting with no work. A friend offered me to come and help with a hot tar roofing job. I was told to hydrate myself before I started so I wouldn't get overheated, and if I did, don't start chugging ice cold water. I didn't listen. After several trips up and down the ladder, I got hot, I chugged the water, I lifted the next two pails of hot tar and proceeded up the ladder. The next thing I knew I was lying on the canopied tailgate of my friend's pickup truck. My co-workers barely caught me in time before I ended up tumbling down after fainting at the top of the ladder. I foolishly ignored the wisdom and advice from the voice of those experienced.
Wisdom is usually the voice of experience, especially our parents, elders, or veterans of certain jobs or missions. But true wisdom comes from God. The spiritual capacity to see and evaluate life and conduct ourselves according to God's point of view will carry us through various circumstances. Receiving wisdom from God helps us make right choices (see Prov 8:12-36).
Christ is the supreme manifestation of the wisdom of God. Turning from sin, self, and worldly wisdom and instead turning to Jesus is more than just good advice. He will send the Holy Spirit to help us discern and evaluate hard decisions. It's an eternal choice.
"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him." – (James 1:5)

THAT’S (NOT) ENTERTAINMENT?
"THEREFORE I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship." – (Rom 12:1 NASB)
The recent saturation of so-called “reality” shows on tv have changed the way people view entertainment, and its impact has become obvious: Such is the case of the recent trial of a young mother charged with the death of her toddler daughter. The mob psychology here is alarming and I’m not talking about reaction to the verdict (her innocence or guilt shall not be debated here). My concern, rather, is during the trial in which people clamored, trampled, and fought each other for a spectator seat within the courtroom. And the comments made by those fighting to get in were both appalling and frightening.
A tragic death in NOT entertainment; other peoples “dirty laundry” is NOT entertainment. The craving to feed this kind of ungodly desire as well as others are mentioned in our Scriptures:
“The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life…Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people – (Gal 6:8-10 NIV).
When we see tragedy happening, let us not rush to get a good view. Let us rush to get on our knees and get a good place before the Throne and ask God’s favor for those who are in sorrow, pain, loss, and suffering.
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect." – (Rom 12:2 NASB)

FREEDOM OR FREE-DUMB?
"[Live] as free people, [yet] without employing your freedom as a pretext for wickedness; but [live at all times] as servants of God.” - (1 Pet 2:16 Amp)
How many times have we heard on the tv news or in a movie the phrase: “Hey! You can’t do this to me. I’m an American citizen. I have my rights!” It seems from generation to generation that more and more people have become demanding with expectations in the sense that they are deserving or owed something as if it’s coming to them. A reward, if you will, for nothing good done.
The freedom to do as we please can have varying consequences. Paul writes in 1 Cor 10:23 that “Everything is permissible’ -but not everything is beneficial.” For instance, you are free to jump in a pit of poisonous snakes, but it’s not advisable, nor am I suggesting that you go out and try it as the outcome would be less than desirable.
To really know freedom is to submit to the authority of Christ. Yup, I didn’t stutter. Submission equals freedom. By allowing our hearts to be surrendered to the authority of Christ, we will live victorious lives free of the headaches, heartaches, and whatever-aches that result from serving sin.
"You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature… So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” (Gal 5:13,16) We do not have a “license” to sin. That’s NOT freedom, that’s foolishness. Freedom provided by Christ is not so we can do what we want to, but to do as we should do. (1 Cor 10: 23-24; Rom 6:18-23).
If the whole world would submit to the authority of Christ and the freedom only He can give, then the whole world would experience something astounding…PEACE.

HOW CAN YOU LOVE?
"Then Jesus told him, 'Because you have seen me, you believe; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed'." – (John 20:29)
About a month or so ago, someone who knew that I was a Christian posed the question: "How can you love someone that you've never seen?"
To some believers, it may seem like a ridiculous question, but for the unbeliever or even the new believer, it's a very good question deserving an answer. Perhaps I can illustrate with the following:
I have three wonderful grand-nieces who, every now and then, jump on the phone whenever I call my nephew. My grand-nieces have never met me nor even seen me, but they never get off the phone without the final words: "I love you Uncle Scott!" How can they possibly love someone that they've never seen?
Well, first of all they know me. How? Through the testimony of their parents who have told them who I am; through my letters to them, through their conversations with me, and through the gifts I've sent.
It's the same way with our Triune God. We know Him through the testimony of others who have told us about Him; we know Him through His letters (Scriptures) to us; we know Him through our conversations with Him; and we know Him because of the gifts and/or talents He sends to us.
God is always able to make the seemingly impossible to be possible.
"Though you have not seen Him now, you love Him." -(1 Pet 1:8) It's not an impossible concept because "We live by faith, not by sight." -(2 Cor 5:7 NIV).

PLEASE REMEMBER ME
”I was sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me.” – (Matt 25:36)
When I was a teenager, I remember the first time I accompanied my dad to the VA hospital in Minneapolis. I was not prepared for the sight of the dozens of suffering men and women that I encountered. I noticed that some had a lonely despairing look on their faces and when I later mentioned it to my dad, he replied that some of those poor souls were basically on their own because their own families didn’t want to deal with them and their “emotional baggage” that they carried with them through horrific things seen from the wars, and I thought “man, that’s sad!”
Though I’m currently incarcerated, I’m privileged to be able to support the Disabled American Veterans and Help Hospitalized Veterans organizations. As Christian Soldiers for Christ, we all have various callings, but no matter what those talents or callings are, we all have a common command to “love one another”.
As many families will visit cemeteries to honor their loved ones who have passed, let us not forget the living. During your Memorial Day weekend, perhaps you could take an hour or two to visit a lonely vet, share yourself and your faith, in turn giving that person a hope they’ve never known before. You could enrich that persons’ life and ultimately bring his/her soul to Christ.
Those who have lost limbs might also feel like a prisoner to their bed or wheelchair. Let hearts of servitude be so gracious that you should ask: “When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?” The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’” -(Matt 25:39-40

Dear Readers,
In recent years at Christmas time, the Christian community has shared the phrase that "Jesus is the Reason for the season". As we celebrate the risen Christ at Easter, I believe equal emphasis should be given that Jesus is indeed the Reason for this season too! With that said, a couple of brothers in Christ have encouraged me to share a repeat message from last year's Easter.
If you are now reading it for the first time, I pray that it speaks volumes to you.
Happy Resurrection Day!

THE SENTENCE IS: PARDON
”Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” – (Isa 55:7)
Imagine you're sitting on a cold concrete slab in a cell, waiting… There's a clock on the wall, the minutes ticking away, your life is ticking away too. You're waiting to be executed. You have broken the laws of the land and your death is the justice demanded of you. Waiting… You hear the jingle of the keys. The door opens. The guards beckon you. It's time. You walk haltingly, surrounded by the guards and follow the warden, a serious look on his face. You're led out the front gates, your handcuffs are removed. The warden looks back to you and says: "You're free! You've been fully pardoned!" You look back at him with bewilderment; stunned, you say: "But today was the execution. I don't understand." The warden says: "Oh, there WAS an execution today. Another man volunteered to die in your place!"
Sounds absurd? Maybe. But that's exactly what's already been done for you and I by our Savior, Christ Jesus.
You might say, "Hey, I'm no criminal. I'm a law-abiding citizen. I go to church on Sundays. Why I even pay my taxes." Well, that's very good and all, but as far as eternity is concerned, none of that simply matters.
For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" and "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Rom 3:23, 6:23) No matter how "good" any of us might think we are, by God's standard, we don't measure up. Our sins are before us and we deserve His punishment which is death. Our sins are worthy of execution. But Jesus volunteered His life upon a cross at Calvary. He was executed in our place, dying the death that we deserve. Through His death and His resurrection, we have a promise of everlasting life with Him in a glorious realm that exceeds our imaginations.
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through Him." (Rom 5:8-9)
The very foundation of our faith is simple: "That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures." (1 Cor 15:3b-4)
As we observe the celebration of Easter, may we all turn our thankful eyes to Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Bunnies, chocolate eggs, or warm, fuzzy things might seem nice, but only Jesus' grace can rescue us from death and raise us to glorious everlasting life.
Just as the thief on the cross next to Jesus, YOU – the same as him, have been fully pardoned, and Jesus promises that: "You will be with Me in paradise." (Luke 23:43b)
Happy Resurrection Day

FALLING DOWN
”The Lord upholds all those who fall and lifts up all who are bowed down.”
– (Psa 145:14 NIV))
Have you ever experienced your own personal "let-down"? Have you ever gone through a personal failure in which you believe to be so un-forgiving that you can't even conceive or comprehend God's forgiveness?
The Bible gives us many examples of people "falling-down" from a place of righteous living to a place of foolish behavior ranging from puffed-up arrogance and pride to plain and simple apostasy ( a falling away or abandonment of faith ).
Let's look at David. In 2 Samuel, we see the drastic 180 degree turn that David has taken from a devoted, obedient lifestyle with God, to a life filled with adultery, deceit, and even murder. How could such an event take place to one so strongly grounded in his relationship with God? It's simple, really. David took his eyes off his first love [God] and turned his eyes to selfish, earthly desires rather than God's desires.
This is nothing new, to be sure. It began with Adam and Eve's desire to taste the forbidden fruit. To this day, Satan uses "desire" to lure, tempt, and trick us. He disguises sin as something beautiful and desirable; but God will always give us a way out…
God is always ready and willing to forgive us of even the most seemingly unforgivable sins because there is no balancing scale. Sin is sin! The very purpose of Christ's love is to rescue us from sin and pick us up when we stumble or fall and feel like total failures. David repented and God forgave and restored him. He will do the same for you and I.
"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up." – (James 4:10 NIV)

"READY FOR SURGERY"
”Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.”
– (Eze 36:26 NASB)
Heart surgery has become a common procedure in today’s hospitals. Heart surgeon specialists have become so familiar with the inner workings of the heart that they are able to discern if just good medicine is needed or for an extremely bad heart… a heart transplant, replacing the faulty old one with a new one.
Spiritually speaking, you and I, the whole world for that matter, are in need of a heart transplant. The first thing we need is a blood transfusion. When we ask Christ to be our Redeemer and personal Savior, by His blood we receive a blood transfusion. But that’s not the whole package. Our “new” blood needs a “new” heart and thankfully, God performs His special kind of surgery, a supernatural “transplant” like no other.
Proverbs 17:22 tells us: “A happy heart is good medicine and a cheerful mind works healing…” Filling our hearts and minds with God’s Word daily is indeed a daily-dose of “good medicine”. A cheerful heart comes from the joy of knowing Christ’s redemption and resurrection power (see Phil 3:10-11).
Have you received your new heart? If not, His table is ready and waiting for you to perform His miracle of surgical love and have you experience life to the fullest!

"BEGIN AGAIN!"
"Therefore if any person is (ingrafted) in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether) ; the old (previous moral and spiritual condition) has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!" – (2 Cor. 15:17 AMP)
It's a new year, and once again people will be making their New Year's resolutions. I'm reminded of a childhood song which goes:
"There once was a man named Michael Finnegan
He grew whiskers on his chinnegan
The wind came up and blew them in again
Poor ol' Michael Finnegan…Begin again…"
And so the song continues in a repeating loop, never ending until enough kids tire of it and start dropping out.
Sometimes we are just like that. We make vows and promises to ourselves to stop doing certain activities and to start new things in order to improve ourselves; then the year has passed, and as the new year begins we find ourselves repeating the same vows and promises. It becomes a cycle – a continuous, never-ending loop, until we grow weary and drop out utterly defeated.
While we may be sincere in setting goals, our failure usually occurs in the fact that we've excluded God while making our plans. God desires to be in all parts or our life. And when we include Him, and more importantly, put our plans in motion in a way that glorifies Him, we will prosper both physically and spiritually.
Our personal changes cannot, and will not, happen under our own power and strength. Only when we call upon Christ can our hearts be changed and therefore our behavior and attitudes also be changed. David's prayer in Psalm 51 is a wonderful prayer that we can call upon daily. If, like David, we will be honest with ourselves and approach God's throne of mercy and grace with our broken-ness and contrite hearts, He will be faithful to bring us a refreshing of His Holy Spirit in which we will "…not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." – (Rom. 12:2)
Let's set our sights on practical goals pleasing to God, pray David's prayer (Psa. 51), and allow God to move and bring fulfillment in our lives.
Let's get out of the loop!
A prosperous New Year to all,

NO CHRIST, NO PEACE – KNOW CHRIST, KNOW PEACE!
"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." -
(John 14:27 NIV)
The Hebrew word for peace is shalom. It can mean tranquility, harmony, soundness, wholeness, and well-being. It is certainly something the whole world needs today.
In a world that has gone seemingly crazy with kids killing kids, drug lords slaughtering innocents, human vultures preying on weak and poverty-stricken individuals… the word "peace" doesn't seem to be a part of our vocabulary; and yet, peace is available for you and I today. Right now, in fact!
When Jesus spoke to His disciples about the peace He was leaving (giving) them, He wasn't referring to a peace free of conflict, countries at war, arguments or disagreements. In the world those things will continue to happen. Jesus meant an "inner-peace" that comes from deep within. It happens when we allow Christ to dwell deep inside our hearts.
Isaiah prophesied about the Prince of Peace (Isa 9:6). And the army of angels that appeared to the shepherds told and sang of the Promised Messiah saying: "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men (Luke 2:14 KJV).
Satan came to destroy our peace beginning with Adam and Eve, but Yeshua has come to destroy Satan and his power, to restore "shalom" to all through redeeming power of His own blood.
It is not enough to merely know about Christ. If we want to experience His peace then we need to have a personal relationship of faith and trust in Him and then He will indeed be our Prince of Peace. This is why He left His home in heaven, to become flesh, and to sacrifice Himself. This is why He came as a servant born in a lowly manger. It was for our salvation…and that brings an inner peace that the world cannot give.
“Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.” - (2 Thess 3:16)

UMM, THANKS, I THINK…
“Enter His gates with
thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and
praise His name.” -
(Psa 100:4 NIV)
The words of Psalm 100 are familiar to most Christians as it is sung
as a popular praise song during worship services. Notice the word popular...
I have the privilege of leading worship at three separate services
on Saturday and Sunday. There is a vast difference in the response
of the congregation at these various services. The Saturday afternoon
congregation are on their feet shouting to the Lord from the first
song to the last. The Sunday morning congregation has a few who lift
up their hands in surrender and a few who stand and praise. The Sunday
afternoon service rarely sees a response, positive or otherwise. In
fact, there are times when they seem bored with the entire service
without the slightest hint of joy. As a praise & worship leader,
it can be frustrating, but it also leads me to pray fervently for the
body of Christ, myself in the equation.
Now with this being a prison setting, I see some of the Saturday members
eventually move to a different locale in the facility which in turn
brings them to a different service on Sunday. Those individuals who
stood and shouted to the Lord are now suddenly sitting, seemingly subdued.
What happened? Did the fire they had for the Lord go out? Did they
stand and shout only because others were and so as a knee-jerk reaction,
they did it too? Was it the popular thing to do?
Only God knows the sincerity of our hearts. When we enter His house
of worship, do we first prepare our hearts by meditating on His Word
and gifts of grace and mercy shown to us? Do we have hearts of true
thanksgiving or do we just say it as a conditioned response?
Our freedom and pardon from sin has been fully
paid for. Our assurance of a mansion on streets of gold is sure… IF
we put our trust in the blood of Christ; IF we offer and surrender
ourselves to Him. Everything was completed for us at the cross of
Calvary. My friends, we have so very much to be grateful and thankful
for.
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise;
give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His
love endures forever; and His faithfulness continues through all generations.” (Psa
100:4-5)
May your homes be filled with the love and joy of family as you gather
for a Christ-centered Thanksgiving dinner. May your hearts be bowed
worshipfully before God in true gratitude for all He has done for you
(and I) in His great love.
Happy Thanksgiving to
all!

RAMPANT
RUNNING RUMORS
“Do not spread false reports.
Do not help a wicked man by being a malicious witness.”
- (Exodus 23:1)
When my family moved to a small town when I was a young pre-teen, it didn’t
take long for me to experience, first-hand, the painful receiving end of gossip.
I would be subject to much more for years to come. Having long hair and coming
from a major metropolitan city, the assumption was that I just had to be a “druggie” and
a “no good”. The fact is that I had never touched drugs at that
time. The deplorable practice of slander is not limited to small towns, however;
it exists in neighborhoods and communities within large cities. It’s
within the workplace. Sadly, it’s even in some churches! I’ve often
wondered if the power of words influenced me to try drugs (mainly alcohol)
later?!
Words have power (Isa 29:20-21). The circumstantial evidence against Joseph
when Potiphar’s wife accused him of impropriety after her own failed
attempt to cheat on her husband shows how far false words can go. It also proves
that living righteously does not guarantee results in your favor. Joseph, and
even Job, suffered because of the false words and slander of others.
Just pay attention to the next upcoming elections and see how slanderous words
and smear campaigns have become the norm of our society. But God’s Word
tells us that this type of behavior is sin. Yes, that’s right… sin!
(Psa 59:12)
“A scoundrel plots evil, and his speech is like a scorching
fire. A perverse man stirs up dissension, and a gossip separates
close friends” (Prov 16:27-28). And, “With his
mouth the godless destroys his neighbor…” (Prov
11:9a). Indeed, James chapter 3 tells just how evil our tongue is.
It happens to the vilest part of our body. But it doesn’t have
to be that way...
Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount gives us God’s
principles of righteousness. One in particular says: “Blessed
are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.” (Matt
5:9). And in 1 Peter chapter 3, we read: “Finally, all
of you, live in harmony with one another, be sympathetic, love as
brothers, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil
or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were
called so that you may inherit a blessing, for, ‘Whoever would
love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his
lips from deceitful speech. He must turn from evil and do good; he
must seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the
righteous and His ears attentive to their prayer, but the face of
the Lord is against those who do evil.’”
–
(1 Pet 3:8-12)
Guarding our tongues is not a mere suggestion; it’s God’s standard
(James 1:26-27). Our words have power. How will you use your words today? Will
you bless or curse someone? If you hate your brother, you are a murderer (1
John 3:15), but Jesus’ second commandment is to: “Love your
neighbor as yourself.” - (Mark 12:28-31) Don’t use your tongue
to spread gossip, lies or rumors. Use it to lift someone up, encourage, and
bless them!!

DON’T
LOOK BACK!
“Remember Lot’s wife!” -
(Luke 17:32)
The key Scripture verse is only three words long, but it speaks volumes. The
Bibles’ recorded history and doom of Sodom (Gen 19:1-29) reveals a stern
warning about longing for the world’s so-called pleasures and placing
them first before God. Our God is a jealous God. Anything we place before Him
becomes idolatry.
Of course every Christian has suffered some sort of backslide once, maybe twice,
but it’s another thing entirely to keep returning to the same sin over
and over and over again if you are professed to be a saved, born-again, washed
in the blood Christian. You may need to seriously evaluate the authenticity
and sincerity of having given your life to Christ.
Longing to hang on to old ways or habits is not a part of the plan. We read
in Romans 12:2 – “Do not be conformed any longer to the pattern
of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will
be able to test and approve what God’s will is – His good, pleasing
and perfect will.”
Last month I spoke of keeping your eyes on the goal. To elaborate…If
you’re driving down a highway with your head turned around looking out
your rear window for a length of time, you’re a disaster waiting to happen.
Don’t keep your eyes on what’s left behind you, but on what’s
before you.
“Do not love the world or anything
in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father
is not in him. For everything in the world – the cravings
of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he
has and does – comes not from the Father but from the world.” – (1
John 2:15-16). And James 4:4,7 tells us: “You adulterous
people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is
hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world
becomes an enemy of God…Submit yourselves, then, to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
Lot’s wife set her heart’s affections on the lifestyle she enjoyed
in Sodom which proved fatal. May we all learn from her error that the world’s
way leads to death and destruction while God’s way leads to glorious
life with Him forever.
Remember Lot’s wife! Don’t look back!

Persevere!
“…let us run with perseverance
the race marked out for us.” – (Heb
12:1c NIV)
I have just learned a valuable lesson in perseverance. Someone dear to my heart
has found me, after nearly twenty years of searching. After she and her family
moved away from the small town where we lived (I also moved away!), we simply
lost contact with each other. Although I thought about her (and her family)
often, I never quite knew how to go about finding them due to my status of
incarceration.
My dear one, however, diligently set her mind to seeking me out, a sort of
commitment, if you will, to find out what had happened to me and my whereabouts.
Nearly two decades later, her patience and endurance paid off…She didn’t
lose faith. She pressed on and achieved her goal. Now, I wouldn’t necessarily
call myself the prize, but nonetheless, I’ve been found! (sounds like
a familiar Hymn?!)
Our faith requires a commitment such as this. The enemy will constantly throw
roadblocks in our way, trying to discourage us. But with patience, endurance,
and trust, we can overcome and see the finish line come into view. We must
persevere, stick to our resolve to see it through. Christ is the Prize, out
most wonderful goal!
“…Let us run with perseverance the race marked out
for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of
our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross…Consider
Him who endured such opposition…so that you will not grow weary
and lose heart.” – (Heb. 12:1-3)
Christ is our source of strength and the source of our help so that we can
persevere in life’s race and reach our goal. Just as my dear one did
not lose heart in her search, neither should we lose heart, though life will
most certainly have struggles along the way. “I have fought the good
fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store
for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will
award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have
longed for His appearing.” – (2 Tim 4:7-8)
Don’t lose faith! Press on!! Persevere!!!

LET
FREEDOM RING!
“Now the Lord is the Spirit,
and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” – (2
Cor 3:17 NIV)
A while ago, I received a book-marker in the mail from the Disabled American
Veterans, an organization that I’ve supported for quite some time. This
very decorative book-mark has a picture of the Statue of Liberty with a caption: “Let
freedom ring in our hearts forever!” As I recently came upon this bookmarker,
reading it again as our nation nears it’s celebration of independence,
my heart was stirred concerning another nation…
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a
people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you
out of darkness into His wonderful light.” – (1 Pet 2:9 NIV).
God has set us apart as a nation unto Him, and He gives us, through the blood
of His Son, freedom from sin so that we are no longer slaves, no longer in bondage
to sin. Is that fact ringing in our hearts and causing rejoicing? It should!
America recognizes that freedom has a cost of both life and limb and so our
veterans of young and old are honored during several events throughout the
year. Do we, who call ourselves Christians, bring honor and glory to our Savior
who paid the cost of His very life at Calvary for you and I?
“IT IS for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm,
then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery” [to
sin]. – (Gal 5:1)
Freedom as the world views it is a physical event. Freedom through Christ is
a Supernatural event and can only be experienced by those who have placed their
trust in His redeeming blood and we know a peace that the world can’t
comprehend. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” – (John
8:36)
As one nation lets freedom ring in their hearts, may I encourage all of us
who are a “holy nation, a people belonging to God” truly
let freedom from sin ring in our hearts forever by living a life that reflects
His love for us.
“To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood, and
has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve His God and Father – to
Him be glory and power forever and ever! Amen.”

OUTCAST!
“In the same way, I tell you,
there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over
one sinner who repents.” (Luke
15:10 NIV)
Have you ever felt all alone in the world? Has someone told you that you just
don’t measure up, that you’ll never amount to anything? Ridiculed?
Rejected? Abandoned?
Each of us has probably gone though some form of one of these cruel remarks.
Maybe in high school, maybe in the work place, maybe, sadly, even at home.
But some have experienced the damaging effects of hateful words worse than
others, leaving lasting mental scars and wounds. Our society only seems to
accept people of high social status based on financial success or perhaps a
respected family name, snubbing all others.
Things were not so different in Jesus’ day. Society had its outcasts.
And yet, God did not turn his back on ANYONE who called upon His name for rescue.
Jesus understood their pain because, you see, Jesus was considered by many
to be an outcast too!
The man with leprosy (Mark 1), the woman at the well (John 4), the hateful,
murderous Saul of Tarsus (Acts 9), the blind man (John 9), the paralytic (Mark
2), the partying prodigal son (Luke 15), the adulterous woman (John 8). These
are but a few examples of societies misfits who were either “throw-a-ways” by
social standards or they were rebellious people in need of a life-change.
Praise God that His standards are different, that His ways are not our ways
(Isa 55:6-8). In God’s sight, we are all precious gems. We are valuable
to Him and His desire is that all people would call on Him no matter who they
are, where they come from, or what they’ve done. Just as the potter does
not throw away the clay, he instead molds and shapes the clay into something
beautiful (Jer 18:1-4), so God also desires to do likewise with us. No one
is beyond salvage or salvation.
“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of
them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go
after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he
joyfully puts it on his shoulders…and says ‘rejoice with
me, I have found my lost sheep” (Luke 15:4-6).
In Christ, we are never abandoned, never rejected,
never forsaken. “…I am with you always, to the very
end of the age” (Matt 28:20b). You are not lost, you are
found. You are not damaged goods, you are a refined gemstone. And
through the blood of Christ, you are not a homeless outcast, you
are an adopted heir to a mansion on streets of gold.

SIGNS
O’ THE TIMES
“Therefore keep watch, because
you do not know on what day your Lord will come.” (Matt
24.42 [NIV])
Speculation about the end of the world has existed for hundreds of years, but
a renewed interest has occurred with the recent movie “2012” relating
to the Mayan Indian calendar which abruptly ceases in December of that year.
Jesus spoke quite graphically about the last days. “You will hear
of wars and rumors of wars…Nation will rise against nation…There
will be famines and earthquakes in various places…many will turn away
from the faith…false prophets will appear and deceive…Because of
the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold.” (Matt
24: 6-12)
It is no secret that these events are taking place RIGHT NOW! At this writing,
earthquakes have occurred in the past 3 months in Haiti, Illinois, California,
China, Chile, Oklahoma, Baja, Utah, and more. Two volcanic eruptions in a month
in Iceland disrupting air traffic in Europe. Floods and famines worldwide.
God’s infallible Word is being compromised in many churches which are
allowing homosexuality, greed, and selfish ambition to enter in under the disguise
of “tolerance” while the authority of Christ’s Word are being
pushed aside and mention of His redeeming “blood” is considered
offensive.
Will the world end in 2012? Not likely! Too many things must yet take place
according to the Scriptures. The “gospel of the kingdom will be preached
in the whole world…then the end will come.” (Matt 24:14).
Will the Rapture happen soon? Maybe. “So you also must be ready,
because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.” (Matt
24:44). Whether it’s ten minutes from now or ten years from now doesn’t
matter. Jesus says to be ready because He IS coming again. Make no mistake!
“For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with a
loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet
call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that we
who are still alive and are left will be caught up (latin
= raptu) together with them in the clouds to meet
the Lord in the air. And so will be with the Lord forever.” (1
Thes 4:16-17)
Have you invited Jesus Christ to be your personal Lord and Savior and friend?
He wants you to know Him and His great love for you which includes forgiveness
and pardon of all our sins. Eternity with Christ doesn’t begin after
death. It begins when you receive Him today! Make your travel plans for Paradise
right away. You don’t want to miss this important flight.

THE
SENTENCE IS: PARDON
Let the wicked forsake his way and
the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the Lord and he will
have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. (Isa
55:7)
Imagine you’re sitting on a cold concrete slab in a cell, waiting… There’s
a clock on the wall, the minutes ticking away, your life is ticking away too.
You’re waiting to be executed. You have broken the laws of the land and
your death is the justice demanded of you. Waiting… You hear the jingle
of the keys. The door opens. The guards beckon you. It’s time. You walk
haltingly, surrounded by the guards and follow the warden, a serious look on
his face. You’re led out the front gates, your handcuffs are removed.
The warden looks back to you and says: “You’re free! You’ve
been fully pardoned!” You look back at him with bewilderment; stunned,
you say: “But today was the execution. I don’t understand.” The
warden says: “Oh, there WAS an execution today. Another man volunteered
to die in your place!”
Sounds absurd? Maybe. But that’s exactly what’s already been done
for you and I by our Savior, Christ Jesus.
You might say, “Hey, I’m no criminal. I’m a law-abiding citizen.
I go to church on Sundays. Why I even pay my taxes.” Well, that’s
very good and all, but as far as eternity is concerned, none of that simply
matters.
"For ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and “For
the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in
Christ Jesus our Lord." (Rom 3:23, 6:23) No matter how “good” any
of us might think we are, by God’s standard, we don’t
measure up. Our sins are before us and we deserve His punishment
which is death. Our sins are worthy of execution. But Jesus volunteered
His life upon a cross at Calvary. He was executed in our place, dying
the death that we deserve. Through His death and His resurrection,
we have a promise of everlasting life with Him in a glorious realm
that exceeds our imaginations.
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While
we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since we have now been
justified by His blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s
wrath through Him.” (Rom 5:8-9)
The very foundation of our faith is simple: “That Christ died for
our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised
on the third day according to the Scriptures.” (1 Cor 15:3b-4)
As we observe the celebration
of Easter, may we all turn our thankful eyes to Jesus, the
Author and Perfector of our faith. Bunnies, chocolate eggs,
or warm, fuzzy things might seem nice, but only Jesus’ grace
can rescue us from death and raise us to glorious everlasting
life.
Just as the thief on the cross next to Jesus,
YOU – the same as him, have been fully pardoned, and Jesus
promises that: “You will be with Me in paradise.” (Luke
23:43b)

“Sin is Sin – Grace
is Grace”
“For it is by grace you have
been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves,
it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can
boast.” –(Eph
2:8-9[NIV])
Recently, there was a preacher on tv who was spouting a message of “good
works”, but nothing about grace. He went further to say that ALL murderers,
rapists, and their ilk would get what they deserve and were destined for hell.
His last statement, for the most part, is correct with one important exception
that he left out… GRACE!
Grace is God’s un-merited favor and is available to ALL and ANY who repent
(turn away from sin) and receive our Messiah, Christ Jesus, as their personal
Lord and Savior.
Moses, David, and Paul were all murderers and David was even an adulterer,
yet God called David a man after God’s own heart. You see, each of these
men failed in their flesh, but they ultimately turned to God and His standards,
including His forgiveness. God’s grace is sufficient!
Murder, rape, theft, and other crimes that make the news are all, of course,
terrible sins. But by God’s standards, sin is not measured on a balancing
scale. God is God and sin is sin. God is perfect and can have no part of sin.
Our sins of omission are as equal and serious as our sins of commission. Sin
is not only committed in deed, but also in though and word such as pride, hatred,
lust, lying, cursing. Things we don’t do (omission) such as prayer, reading
our Bible, loving our neighbor, are as bad as (commission) losing our temper,
stealing, and gossiping and slandering.
In a nutshell, sin is anything that displeases God. “For
all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.” –(Rom
3:23)
I’m not excusing any criminal acts. We all have an accountability under
both earthly laws and God’s laws. However, by the blood of the Lamb (God’s
grace) we receive forgiveness. The “Good News” concerning our eternity
is that God tosses our sins to the depths of the sea to be remembered no more
(Micah 7:19)
If I were able to get to heaven
on the merit of my so-called “good works”, then
Christ’s sacrifice on the cross would be meaningless.
He wouldn’t be our Savior. But Jesus firmly tells us: “I
AM the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the
Father except through me.” –(Matt 14:6) No
exceptions!
If I am to believe what that preacher on tv
was saying to be true, then there is no hope for ANYONE. But the
fact and truth is that there is hope for ALL people and the name
of that hope is Yeshua-Jesus Christ. Let’s revisit the rest
of Romans 3…For all have sinned and fall short of the glory
of God, and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption
that came by Christ Jesus. God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement,
through faith in His blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice… Do
we, then nullify the law by this faith: Not at all! Rather, we uphold
the law. (vv 23-31) (see Rom 3; 21-31)
There is no sin that Jesus can’t forgive.
How great is His mercy; how great is His grace!
Grateful for His mercies,

HEART – BURN!
“…His word is in my
heart like a fire." (Jer
20:9 [NIV] )
Does the Word of God cause a fire within your heart? Does it seem to ignite
with a passion and desire while reading His word or while sharing His word
with others?
If your answer was no, yet you claim you are a Christian, perhaps you need
to reexamine your heart. When you truly receive Christ as your personal Lord
and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters in (Matt 3:11) and ignites our spirit, which
was dead, to life. Our hearts should always be aflame with excitement to tell
others about Jesus’ love and His next coming. Even in the face of persecution,
which is trivial when compared to the glory that awaits us.
In our reading of Jeremiah chapter 20, Jeremiah was beaten, imprisoned, and
ridiculed for prophesying and proclaiming God’s word. Indeed, this reaction
happens to today’s messengers (you and I) in the mission field. Yet,
the fire within compels us to carry on without fear. He will provide His own
strength for us that we may endure whatever comes our way.
“But if I say, ‘I will not mention Him or speak any
more in His name,’ His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire
shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.” (Jer
20:9) And on the road to Emmaus, the two followers of Jesus, not
knowing they had been speaking with Him until later, said: “Were
not our hearts burning within us while He talked with us on the road
and opened the Scriptures to us?” (Luke 24:32 [NIV]).
God’s Word cannot be contained. It is a Supernatural wildfire and it
will not be extinguished.
IT IS! And it cannot be suppressed.
The Hold Spirit’s fire (baptism) from Pentecost (Acts 2) to the present
will empower us and set us afire to live as witnesses for Christ and His Kingdom.
That’s a good kind of heart-burn we can live with!
With heartfelt love,

CHANGE
IS GOOD!
“Create in me a clean heart,
O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” (Psalm
51:10 [KJV])
A few years ago, a fast-food chain created a marketing campaign to entice folks
to switch their brand of sandwich from a competitor’s with the proclaim
that: “Change is good!”
Indeed, change is good. With that in mind, many people have made their New
Year’s resolutions to make changes in their lives, to cease certain ways
or habits and begin a new routine; to further their education, to seek a better
career and quality of life. Unfortunately, many of our good intentions will
fall away and eventually be completely forgotten.
Change is not impossible though. By surrendering our old habits to God through
prayer and petition, we can be overcomers. Jesus will give us the victory because
Jesus IS the victory! The goal for a diet, to get in better shape, or to land
that dream job can happen if we allow God to help us make the necessary changes
that we need.
Consider Jeremiah’s message at the potter’s house. “So I
went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel.
But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter
formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.” (Jer 18:3-4
[NIV] ).
If our hopes and dreams are in line with God’s will, then we can and
should expect those kinds of miracles in our lives; not out of arrogance, but
rather, absolute faith in Him.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans
to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”-(Jer
29:11 [NIV] ).
Plan your life’s changes and then plant them in God’s hands, pray
in Jesus’ name and watch what happens! The change will be good!!
Happy New Year & blessings
to all!

RESTORED!
REJOICE!!!
“Restore us again, O God;
and cause Your face to shine [in pleasure and approval on us],
and we shall be saved.” (Psalm
80:3 (Amplified))
Before I came into the saving knowledge of Christ, I lived a sinful life of
alcohol, foul language, and foul deeds. Because of my sinful behavior, I caused
a rift in the relationships of several friends and relatives. After receiving
Christ as my personal Lord and Savior, I began to pray earnestly for my family
(and friends) that they might also, one day, come to salvation in Christ.
God has faithfully answered prayer though the past few years as I have been
reunited and restored to a relationship with many family members, as they too
have come to a saving faith in Christ Jesus. It’s a wonderful feeling
to talk with relatives on the phone and not hear any hint of animosity. Instead,
there is forgiveness and grace between us.
Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God also caused a rift in their relationship
with Him. Because God can have no part of sin, He removed Himself from them
and no longer walked with them in the garden.
But God had a plan from the beginning and “…saved us and called
us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because
of His own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before
the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of
our Savior, Christ Jesus… (2 Tim 1:9-10a). (also see Gen 3:15).
The purpose of Christ’s birth was to restore us to a right relationship
with our heavenly Father!
We are called to love one another in and through Christ. When any one falls,
we are encouraged by Paul in Gal 6:1, “Brothers, if someone is caught
in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently.” And
I Cor 13:5c tells us that love “keeps no record of wrongs.”
Now THAT’s GRACE!!
Maybe you yourself are hurting because of a rift in a relationship. God understands
completely. Though He was hurt by our rejection of His love, still He gave
His only Son, born of flesh and sacrificed for us so that Jesus own blood could
bring us back to restoration with Him.
Through the power of prayer, praise, and trust, God can restore any relationship
that’s been severed through grace. The birth of Jesus made it so! What
a gift! Thank you for restoring us Jesus!!!
Merry Christmas!

THANKS
FOR THE TROUBLED TIMES!
“Give thanks in all circumstances,
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
(1 Thes 5:18 NIV)
You might be amazed by how many incarcerated men have said: “I’m
thankful (or glad) that I came to prison (because God saved my life in here)!” I
have seen the faces of many astonished volunteers and ministers upon hearing
this peculiar proclamation.
Indeed, the idea of joyfulness in times of trouble and strife seems absurd;
and yet, we read of people like David, Daniel, Paul, Peter, and let’s
not forget Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. These people, and others, went
though terrible and horrifying ordeals and yet came through it all with strength,
courage, and joy because of their trust and comfort through the Comforter.
It is in prison where many people, in their despair, have come to know the
deep, agape love of Christ. For a lot of people, the word LOVE may
have had strings attached and was not freely given; but the unconditional love
of God has no strings, no catch, no hidden obligations. God IS love! (1
John 4:8b).
I am so very thankful that Christ gave His life for a sinner like me. He has
loved you and me all of our lives, waiting for us to come into His loving embrace
and free us from all our hurts we have suffered in the world.
Do you feel guilt or shame? Do you feel as if no one could ever love you? Do
you need the comfort of knowing that someone actually, truly loves you?
God loves you beyond imagination! He created you and knows exactly what you
need. Society may throw many of us to the wolves, but your heavenly Father
loves you no matter who you are or what your background is. He already knows
everything about you, and He says to come as you are and He will clean you
from the inside out, through the blood of His Son and give you a new and changed
life.
We have become a generation of grumblers, never satisfied despite living luxuriously
compared to impoverished lands. Instead, let us all give thanks to You, Lord,
with a grateful heart because You’ve given us Jesus Christ. “Thanks
be to God for His indescribable gift.” (2 Cor 9:15).
With thanksgiving,
S. Danielson

…NAME, PLEASE?
“Nevertheless, do not rejoice
at this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that
your names are enrolled in heaven”. – (Luke
10:20 [AMP])
For several years, I have supported various charities via mail. Now, in recent
years, I’ve been overwhelmed by dozens upon dozens of letters from different
charities asking for contributions. It seems my name has been added to the
lists of all these organizations.
The places our names end up can affect us greatly. For instance, your name
could be engraved on some award recognizing you for some great accomplishment
or work. Or, your name could be on an arrest warrant…not so good! Proverbs
22:1 tells us that “A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better that silver or gold”. A good name reflecting
ones integrity is better than any kind of social status. It’s all about
your character.
For believers, there is one list we want to make sure our names are on: the
Lamb’s Book of Life! (Luke 10:20, Phil 4:3, Heb 12:23, Rev 21:27)
There is One Name above all names who redeems us and saves us from our sins.
When we call upon the glorious name of Jesus and trust in His blood shed for
us, our names shall be written on that wonderful list. We are in the last days.
Your invitation has been made. Have you accepted Christ’s sacrifice for
you and received His precious gift of everlasting life? Do not allow your name
to be blotted out. “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects
your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened
from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people – everyone
whose name is found written in the book – will be delivered. (Dan
12:1 [NIV])
Asking Jesus into your heart ensures the Good Shepherd “…calls
His sheep by name and leads them out.” (John 10:3). Call on His
Namesake for your namesake. You and your name depend upon it!

MOVING
DAY
The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave
your country, your people and your father’s household and
go to the land I will show you.” - (Gen 12:1)
Moving Day! The mention of it can bring about feelings of anticipation, excitement,
wonder, or, depending on your circumstances, dread. A move could be as complicated
as moving your family across several states or as simple as moving to a different
office cubicle across the corridor. Either way, it opens a new chapter in someone’s
life.
By faith, Abram was led to an unknown territory he had never been. Did Abram
(later Abraham) question or have doubt in his mind the thing which he was about
to do? The Bible doesn’t tell us, but we know that Abram was obedient to
God and went forth as God had directed him. Ultimately, Abraham trusted his
Lord.
We, too, are called, just like Abraham, to leave our “country” and
seek our true citizenship in heaven (Phil 3:20). This world is not our permanent
home. We are aliens in a foreign land and our spirit-man longs for a “better
country” – a heavenly one (Heb 11:8-16) in a city that God has
prepared for us.
How do we get to this new home? By first asking Jesus Christ into our hearts
to be our personal Lord and Savior. We then learn to place our trust in
Him and to surrender every situation to Him, living a life of faith and obedience.
Wait a minute, brother Scott, you’re telling me I’ve gotta follow
a bunch of rules. No! I’m not. If you truly allow God to change your
heart, then an obedient, loving, lifestyle will happen. No legalistic, ritual,
churchianity rules, but rather an obedient Christianity life.
“In my Father’s house are many rooms; …I am going
there to prepare a place for you.” “If anyone loves me,
he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come
to him and make our home with him” (John 14:2, 23). Not
only does Christ prepare a home for us, He also makes His home IN us
through His Holy Spirit.
In my lifetime, I’ve lived in many cities
and states. Some were great adventures, some were not, but for that
time period, they were places that I called home. I can hardly wait
for the ultimate “Moving Day” when God calls us “home” to
that heavenly mansion bright on streets of gold. Lord Jesus, thank
you for your saving grace which paves the way to our “eternal” home.
Amen!
Peace and grace to all,
S. Danielson

WHAT’S
THAT YOU SAY?
“The Lord came and stood there,
calling as at the other times, ‘Samuel! Samuel!’ Then
Samuel said, ‘Speak, for your servant is listening’” (1
Sam. 3:10).
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear” or “He
who has an ear, let him hear.” These words are spoken
by our Lord Jesus in Matthew, Mark, and even Revelations. In essence,
we are being told to “Listen up!”, because I (Jesus)
have something important for you to hear and understand.
Indeed, as I am writing this, I am in the healing process of an inner ear infection
which broke my right ear drum. In the days following, I have found myself leaning
forward, straining to hear what people are trying to say to me. A realization
came upon me…do I put as much effort into hearing what God has to say
to me? Do I truly hang on His every Word hungrily, digesting the spiritual
nutrition before me? I will have to be honest here and say that I haven’t
always. What a wake-up call!
In Mark 4:3-20, Jesus tells a parable of the farmer scattering seed. The disciples
later ask him to explain. The seed, which of course represents the Word, is
sown. The parable speaks of: 1)Those who hear the Word but are indifferent
to its truth, 2)Those who seek forgiveness, but don’t truly put their
trust in Christ, 3)Those who hear and receive (believe) and in turn share their
witness of salvation through Christ’s blood.
Hearing what God’s Word has to say to us is important. Every life-situation
that exists is brought to light in the Bible. God’s warnings as well
as His love are all there in His Word. His Word is life!
It may not take an ear infection to falter our hearing. Sometimes outside influences
can block our ears. In those times we need to break out our spiritual q-tips
(I will too!) and keep our ears perked, ready to receive His message.
Brothers and sisters… Listen up!
Hearing and obeying,

DEPENDENCE
DAY
“My salvation and my honor
depend on God; He is my mighty Rock, my refuge” – (Psa
62:7).
It’s July! People across the nation take part in a celebration of independence,
leaving the oppressive life which they escaped from other countries of cruelties
and dictatorships. Let freedom ring! Our people are free to live in pursuit
of happiness. But what exactly does that entail?
It seems that our modern society’s “Happy Pursuit” leaves
God in the cold. In the pursuit of living an independent life, many are also
living independently from God. “I’m successful,” “I
have everything I need.” “I don’t need God!” says the
corporate world of today. Our lives are filled with shiny cars, vacation homes,
hi-def home theater, laptops, PDAs, and phones that do everything but walk
the dog. Then there are the movies, shows, theaters, and ads of sensual and
sexual persuasion. And we crave and lust for more material things and sensual
pleasures, forgetting all about God.
“You must no longer live as (they) do… darkened in
their understanding and separated from God… having lost all
sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as
to indulge in every kind of impurity, with a continual lust for more” (Eph
4:17-19). “You, however, did not come to know Christ that
way… you were taught… to put off your old self… and
put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness
and holiness” (Eph 4:20-24) [read Eph 4:17 – 5:21].
Living a life independent from God will result in eternal ruin. The psalmist,
however, in Psalm 62 shows us that when we put everything into God’s
hands, all our strife, anxieties, and afflictions, that He will show compassion
to us. I choose (and hopefully you do too) to live a life dependent on Him.
With our eyes turned upon Jesus, only then can we live a success story filled
with victory. Celebrate “Dependence” day, every day with Christ
Jesus!
In His trust and care,

ONE IS GLAD TO SERVE
Serve wholeheartedly, as if you
were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord
will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is
slave or free. (Eph 6: 7-8 NIV)
I remember a movie back in 1999 called “Bicentennial Man”. Robin
Williams starred as a robot named Andrew whose purpose was to serve the household
which he belonged to. Though his first priority was to serve, William’s
character had a desire to become human and so he went through a process of
having skin, blood, hair, fingernails and all, applied to him by a technological
surgeon.
Over several years he repeatedly went to the highest court to plead his case
to be declared a human being and every time, year after year, he would be denied.
He never got mad or upset though. He simply and eloquently would bow to the
court and reply: “One is glad to serve!”
Within our prison church body of Christ, I marvel at the men who come to serve.
Some serve as members of the praise team, some run the overhead projector so
that the congregation can sing the lyrics, some set up chairs and sweep up
afterwards, some keep records of attendance, some help serve Communion. These
people assist the church leaders, the congregation, and the body of Christ
in whole by their loving hearts of servitude.
Christ is our living example of servitude. Although He is Lord of lords and
King of kings, He came as a servant. When Jesus washed His disciple’s
feet, He showed us what it meant to have a heart of humbleness and humility
no matter what our position (see John 13: 1-17).
Jesus calls on us to be in service to one another in Christian love. It’s
not about being first on the ladder, it’s about helping others up it!

A LEGACY OF LOVE
“I tell you the truth, wherever
this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done
will also be told, in memory of her.” (Matt 26:13 NIV)
During the month of May, our nation observes Mother’s Day and Memorial
Day to remember those people for their respective roles in life.
We celebrate our mothers for their nurturing and love shown in raising us from
infancy to adulthood. Likewise, we honor the men and women of our American
troops who sacrifice life and limb for the freedom we enjoy (and many times
take for granted!)
What about the rest of us? How will we be remembered by others? And even more
importantly, when we stand before God, the Father, and He should ask: “What
did you do in my Son’s name?” What will our answer be?
Have we lived the life that we are called and are we telling others about Jesus
and the free gift of salvation through His blood? Have we shown unconditional
love to others, including strangers, to draw them to the One who rescues us
from sin? Will we hear the words “Well done, good and faithful servant.”?
These are important questions to ask ourselves.
Christian recording artist Nicole Nordeman wrote a song titled “Legacy” which
states in the chorus:
“I want to leave a legacy, how will they remember me?
did I choose to love?..
…a child of mercy and grace who blessed Your name unapologetically…
2000 years later, the woman who
anointed Jesus’ head is still remembered for her service to
Him. What a blessing it would be to meet a stranger in heaven who
told you, “I made it because you told me about Jesus one day!” What
a wonderful way to have someone remember you!

BECAUSE HE LIVES
“…Why do you look for
the living among the dead? He is not here; He has risen!...”
-(Luke 24:5c-6a NIV)
As I write this, it’s been 12 years that I’ve been incarcerated.
During that time, many of my family members have been called “home” to
our Lord. First was my dad, then my sister-in-law, my grandmother, my mom,
my aunt (who was like a second mom), and my brother.
When some of the guys have heard about this, they have approached me and said
things like: “Man! I don’t know how you can deal with losing your
family and not go nuts. I’d be wanting to tear things apart! How can
you be so calm about it?”
The answer I give is, of course, quite simple. My calm and peace comes from
the One who gives peace. A peace that the world cannot give. Certainly, my
flesh suffers the emotion of loss and I miss not being able to call and talk
with them anymore, but I still have my family that are living. And there’s
more…
The people who have gone “home” before me will live again. How
do I know that? Well, that’s Christ’s promise to me, to my family
members, and to every single individual who places their trust in Him and believes
on Him. I know that I will see my family again, because when they were still
living, we spoke about our Savior. I also know that I have a few friends and
family who have doubts. Some of Jesus’s disciples had doubts too, but
eventually their spiritual eyes were opened to the truth that the grave was
empty and Jesus was, indeed, alive again.
Paul wrote: “I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection…” (Read
Phil 3: 7-14). How wonderful to know that if this body should see the grave
before the rapture, that still, my body will rise, be transformed into an incorruptible
body with no more tears, no more disease, no more suffering, and that I will
enjoy a reunion with my loved ones and I will have a mansion. Best of all,
we will be in the presence of a Holy God and singing praises to Him, and it’s
all because we put our faith and trust in the blood of Christ and his love
for us. Hallelujah to the King!
Happy Resurrection Day!

BURIED TREASURE!
“But store up for yourselves
treasures in heaven…for where your treasure is, there your
heart will be also.” –Matt 6:20-21
Most every home in America has one of
these and perhaps your own home has one, most likely in your kitchen…a “junk
drawer”! My parents had one; my grandparents had one, and eventually,
so would I.
The junk drawer at my grandparent’s house was a treasure trove for a
kid with an imagination. You would find odds-n-ends of all kinds and sorts
from buttons, nuts, bolts, marbles, string, pens, pencils, notepads, bread
ties, etc. Well, I think you get the picture. And finally, at the top of the
heap was an old, slightly tattered Bible.
You might ask, with some indignation, why a Holy Bible would be in a place
like a “junk drawer”? Well, it so happens that the junk drawer
was the most frequented drawer in the house and when my grandfather would come
from the barn or shed from working on the tractor or whatever chore, he inevitably
would need some item from the junk drawer. And so he would open the drawer,
take out the Bible first and place it on the table, then dig through the drawer
till he found the odd item he needed; then he would open the Bible and proceed
to read for a while before finally closing the book quietly and thoughtfully,
and while meditating on it, place it back on top of everything in the junk
drawer. This was pretty much an every day event for “grampa”.
My grandfather always found 2 rich items of treasures each time he went to
that drawer. The little odd item for his chore and, best of all, …the
full riches of complete understanding…to know the mystery of God, namely
Christ, in which are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Col
2:2-3).
I believe there was wisdom in where my grandfather chose to keep that particular
Bible. There’s an old saying that “one man’s junk is another
man’s treasure”. God’s Living Word is a treasure worth digging
for and finding! Are you on a treasure hunt today?

A Healthy Heart! “For the word of God is living
and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates
even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges
the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Heb 4:12 NIV)
My mother was an LPN at a nursing home healthcare center. Mom had a petite
5’4”, 97 lb. frame. The lifting of heavy people to help them from
beds to bathrooms to wheelchairs eventually took its toll and mom had her first
heart attack at 56 years of age. After that, mom began researching heart disease
and anything related to the heart. Medical professionals have dubbed February
as “Heart Month”.
God is concerned with and searches our hearts as well, though not so much in
the physical sense, but rather the spiritual sense. The attitudes and motivation
of our hearts reveal who we are, and more importantly, who we are in Christ.
God’s physical design of the heart serves a solitary purpose: To pump
life-giving blood through our veins. God’s spiritual design is much more
fascinating and multi-purposed. With our spiritual hearts, we love and hate,
feel pain or joy, glad or bitter, jealous or happy for, selfish or unselfish,
boastful or humble…it’s a long list that goes on and on.
What we need most is a pure heart (Psa 51:10); one
that is loving and that is always seeking God (Psa 105:4; 119:2).
The world can only damage your heart both physically and spiritually, but God’s
perfect love brings peace and guards your heart against the strife of the world (Phi
4:6-7).
Let the Master Physician administer to everything your heart desires and needs.
After all, who better to attend to your heart that the One who designed it
and cares for it? Trust in Jesus, the Master Physician. 24/7…the Doctor
is in!

"ALL
THINGS NEW"
“Therefore, if anyone is in
Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.”
(2 Cor 5:17 NIV)
As the Praise & Worship team leader, I’m always excited when I come
across new music that has that special anointing and message in it that can
move the congregation into that place of intimacy with the Father.
We started our first service of this new year
with Michael W. Smith’s “A New Hallelujah” as the
opening song. I began to think about all the references in the Bible
as to how God makes things new, including ourselves.
The first is His mercies that are new every
morning (Lam 3: 22-23). As we become a new creation (2 Cor 5:17;
Gal 6:15) , He gives us a new attitude and new self (Eph 4: 23-24)
and a new life (Acts 5: 20; Rom 6:4) through the new birth (1 Pet
1:3).
He put a new song in our mouths (Psa 40:3;
98:1) and gives us new tongues to speak (Mark 16:17; Acts 2:4). In
Holy Communion, the Lord’s Supper, we observe the shedding
of His blood and the new covenant He has made for us (Jer 31:31;
Luke 22:20; 1 Cor 11:25; 2 Cor 3:6; Heb 8:8, 9:15).
With our new heart and new spirit (Eze 18:31,
36:26), He promises to us a new heaven and a new earth (Isa 65:17,
22; 2 Pet 3:13; Rev 21:1) where we will be given a new name (Isa
62:2; Rev 2:17). I look forward to that new body (1 Cor 15:35-55;
I Thes 4: 16-17) changed and adapted to live forever in that new
heaven and earth.
Praise God that He is a God of second chances
allowing us to start anew with no looking back at past mistakes,
regrets, and our old sinful nature, in general.
Have you received Jesus Christ as your personal
Lord and Savior? Let today be the day of salvation for you, and you
too can have what God promises; a new life in Him and with Him forever
and ever.
Happy New Year!

"STAR
GAZING"
Matt 2:2b “…we
saw His star in the east and have come to worship Him.”
One evening, in the early 80’s, my friend Jeff and I were on a country
road when we noticed the “northern lights” (aurora borealis) in
the sky. Jeff stopped the car and there, on that quiet gravel road, we sat
on the hood of his car and watched the spectacular display of light blended
with billions of stars as a backdrop. It was an awesome sight and we were completely
mesmerized by God’s show of lights.
2000 years ago, three wise men set out with
their eyes fixed on a singular star among those billions of stars
until; finally, they came upon the Source of that star.
I think about the wonderful and marvelous sight
that those three men witnessed. My friend Jeff and I gazed upon an
impressive display of light which held our rapt attention. But those
three wise men who journeyed from afar came to view the Pure Light,
the promised Messiah, the very One who created all the stars that
they traveled under; the very same stars that my friend and I beheld
on that clear, cloudless night sky filled with a glorious illumination
of colors.
There will come a day when all who have believed
on the bright Morning Star [Jesus] (Rev 22:16) will live in that
place where the Lamb is the light.
Jesus Christ’s glory is beyond anything
of our human imaginations; likewise, the grand sight that Jeff and
I viewed is but a mere sample of God’s expansive universe.
But because our Messiah left His home in heaven to become flesh,
born in a lowly manger, and eventually give His life for us, by faith
then, we will see all of His glorious wonders.
“ There was the true Light which,
coming into the world, enlightens every man.” –John
1:9 (nasb)

gift. Thank you, Jesus!

"Running
Away" (Jonah 1:3, 17) But Jonah ran away
from the Lord... he found a ship... went aboard and sailed...
but the Lord provided
a great fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was inside the fish three
days and three nights.
Almost everyone, even non-believers, are familiar with the story
of Jonah who ended up in the belly of a "great fish".
I can relate to the story of Jonah and here's why. God was calling
on Jonah to deliver a message to the city of Nineveh, a warning to
repent!
For many years, God was calling me and trying to get my attention,
also to eventually share a message of repentance and salvation. But,
like Jonah, I chose to run the other direction.
There are consequences for disobedience to God. For Jonah, it was
captivity in the belly of the great fish. I, also, am captive in
a "great fish" made of concrete and steel. Although God
did not "put"
me in prison, He allowed it to happen because of my poor choices
and decisions. Had I been obedient and listened to God, had fellowship
with His children (believers), and stayed away from corruptible influences,
I'm sure my life would have taken some different turns (better late
then never, but I was fortunate to still have time. We don't know
when time will run out).
But God can turn all things, even undesirable circumstances, into
good! In chapter 2 of Jonah, we read that Jonah prayed to the Lord.
The Zondervan Study Bible comments: 1) inside the fish, Jonah found
himself still alive and called out to the Lord. Although he thought
himself good as dead [v.6], the Lord heard his prayer and spared
his life. 2) Believers should never give up hope in seemingly impossible
situations. Like Jonah, we must cry out to God for mercy and help
and put our lives into His hands.
Eventually, the fish spewed out Jonah. When God calls upon us to
do something for Him, what is our first reaction? In some cases,
we might recoil, fearing ridicule from others; or we might worry
that others will be uncomforable or displeased with our "preaching"
the Good News. We need to stop worrying about pleasing people and
start pleasing God!
Some people won't be pleased to hear our message of hope. Some folks
can't be pleased period. But even if we meet up with rejection, we
can be sure we're planting seeds. God will do the rest, and He deserves
our obedience because He took the form of flesh and became the perfect
Lamb to be slaughtered for our sakes.
1 John 5:3 "This is love for God: to obey His commands. And His
commands are not burdensome."
It doesn't pay to try and run away from God. you can't hide from
Him. But from my own experience, I can say that there is sheer joy
in serving the Lord. No kind act or "church deed" can earn us a place
in heaven. Only the blood of Jesus can rescue us from the "great
fish" in our life. And once we've received that free gift through
faith, oh what a joy to live in obedience and servitude for Him!
